Canal Gardens and Fountain.
 The layout of Nicholson's canal garden is an example of the fashion during the 1830's to separate formal gardens from the immediate picturesque setting of the house and parkland. Nicholson' s layout remains remarkably intact since its creation over 180 years ago, with the central canal crossed at either end by a rustic stone bridge, surrounded by a broad walk, with well laid out flower beds and herbaceous planting. Three small jet fountains aerate and circulate the water, which is known to be full of fish and terrapins.On the lower side of the garden the lawns, which in the spring are covered with a carpet of crocuses and daffodils, are interspersed with highly colourful bedding displays and a fine selection of mature specimen trees.
